criteria f: [primary hypomanic episode:] the episode is not attributable to the physiological effects of a substance (e.g., a drug of abuse, medication) or to another medical condition. {a128} note: a full hypomanic episode that emerges during antidepressant treatment (e.g., medication, electroconvulsive therapy) but persists at a fully syndromal level beyond the physiological effect of that treatment is sufficient evidence for a hypomanic episode diagnosis. However, caution is indicated so that one or two symptoms (particularly increased irritability, edginess, or agitation following antidepressant use) are neither taken as sufficient for diagnosis of a hypomanic episode, nor necessarily indicative of a bipolar diathesis. etiological medical conditions include: alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, hiv-induced dementia, huntington's disease, lewy body disease, wernicke-korsakoff, cushing's disease, multiple sclerosis, als, parkinson's disease, pick's disease, creutzfelt-jakob disease, stroke, traumatic brain injuries, hyperthyroidism etiological substances/medications include: alcohol (i/w), phencyclidine (i), hallucinogens (i), sedatives, hypnotics, anxiolytics (i/w), amphetamines (i/w), cocaine (i/w), corticosteroids, androgens, isoniazid, levodopa, interferon alpha, varenicline, procarbazine, clarithromycin, ciprofloxacin *must provide value
