criteria c: the disturbance is not better accounted for by a psychotic disorder that is not substance-induced. such evidence of an independent psychotic disorder could include the following: note: the following three statements constitute evidence that the psychotic symptoms are not substance-induced. code "1" if any are true. code "3" only if none are true. 1. The symptoms precede the onset of the substance/medication use; 2. The symptoms persist for a substantial period of time (e.g., about 1 month) after the cessation of acute withdrawal or severe intoxication; or 3.
